In October 2025, a critical milestone was reached: for the first time, IPv6 traffic on Google’s web properties globally surpassed the 50% threshold.

Technologies such as DHCP Option 108 allow networks to signal to clients that they can operate IPv6-only, using translation mechanisms such as CLAT only when legacy IPv4 access is strictly necessary.
Large ISPs can increasingly move IPv4 resources to the network border, improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.
This glide path allows organizations to begin decommissioning legacy infrastructure today without breaking compatibility.
